Chinese Youth Forced To Live In Micro Apartments Due To Overpopulation

The world isn’t getting any bigger, but the population of China definitely is. Its astonishing population indexes reveals the shocking scope of an ongoing housing crisis. Let’s have a look at some of the facts that support this notion.

The current Chinese population is 1,412,646,640 as of Wednesday, January 24, 2018, based on the latest United Nations estimates.

China population is equivalent to 67% of the total world population.

China ranks number 1 on the list of countries (and dependencies) by population. The government data predict some 3.4 billion people will occupy the country by the year 2030.

‘Shrinking flats’, ‘cage homes’, ‘coffin cubicles’ and ‘inhabitants accommodation’ are just some of the phrases that come to the mind when we see the appalling conditions under which the Chinese youth is accommodating today.

Over the past several years, these downsized apartments have accommodated several people at once. The inhabitants of such apartments just have a little place to sleep and eat, and some of them even live here till old age. The shrinking and deteriorating quality of living in flats is a sign of market (or government) failure.

According to a report by Business Insider, Micro-apartments have become a norm for developers who divide an entire building into hundreds of units for the purpose of cheap housing.

Migrant workers tough it out in China, and live in typical micro-apartments, as shown here by the country’s largest developer, China Vanke, at the Pearl River Delta Real Estate Fair, in the city of Guangzhou.

As in a typical tiny housing accommodation, efficient storage utilities keep the rooms from feeling too constricting (as if they already aren’t ) and prepares the youth for a cramped middle-age.

Programmers at the N-Wei Technology Company, in Beijing, too share rooms and resign themselves to live in sparse, one-room units (intended for single occupants but divided into multiple living spaces and rented individually).

Some youths through their creativity, often resign to maximising their space through intelligent design elements.

These pictures make us wonder how these youths live in such inhumane conditions. Don’t you also feel the same?
