Not just in India, but in many other parts of the world as well, crazy superstitions still exist. Fear and distress can make even rational people follow these superstitions. And when it comes to their life, people do all sort of weird things like pujas, strange rituals, sacrifices and what not!
Something similar happened in this village of Thailand, where women made their sons and husbands wear make-up and dressed them up in women’s clothes.

Actually, the villagers believe that a ghost of an angry widow is after the men of the village. It all started when five perfectly healthy men from a village of Nakhon Phanom province, Thailand died in their sleep. Villagers believe that the widow’s ghost seduces men in their sleep, and takes their spirit with her to the afterlife, so that she can have her way with them.
By dressing them as women, villagers believe that the ghost will think that there are no men there, and will leave eventually.
Apart from this, villagers have even put ‘special’ scarecrows in red clothes, that have a giant 80 cm erect penis to scare away the ghost. They have painted the tip of the penis with red color and put a label on it saying, ‘there is no man here’.

This solution seems to be working as no man had died after villagers put scarecrows in their houses.
Though the exact reason for the deaths is still known, there have been rumours of men dying in neighbouring villages as well. Elders of the village are afraid that the ghost may target teenage boys next. A village elder, Johnny, 53, said:
“I believe that the ghost of the widow is causing healthy men to die. There have been five deaths already here. My wife and child are afraid that I could die and they wanted the scarecrow to protect me.
Every house has done the same. The long penis about 80 cm long will threaten the ghost when she arrives and she will not dare to pass it and enter. It will keep her away and keep the men safe.”
While there is no evidence that those 5 men were killed by a ghost, their story surely reminds us of Great Grand Masti, doesn’t it?
