With rapid industrialization in the country, many foreign companies are setting up their factories. Companies like Hyundai, Honda, Suzuki,  have their factories located in several parts of the country. And one South Korean company also decided to open their own restaurant but denied permission to anyone else apart from South Koreans.

Mojave Restaurant in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh serves only to South Korean nationals. They have a board outside the restaurant which clearly mentions that ‘Other people are not not permitted inside’. In fact, they also have separate numbers to call for Indians and South Koreans. The restaurant has a guest house as well for South Koreans.

This restaurant-cum-guesthouse came into limelight when an Indian journalist, Rahul, decided to have his lunch at Mojave. The staff denied giving permission to him and said that it is exclusively for South Koreans.

According to local residents, the place was opened an year ago exclusively for employees of Kia Motors. The car manufacturing company has a factory nearby and uses this restaurant as a cafeteria for its employees.

Rahul said:

“Opening a commercial public space and not letting everyone come in is discriminatory. When I went there, they said that the restaurant is not open for Indians. They have put up posters also.”

Rahul further stated that when he called up the restaurant, an Indian employee was handed over the phone and said that the restaurant is not operational at the moment. However, Rahul looked on Google and said that Mojave has been serving its customers for more than an year now.

Such incidents of discrimination are not new in the country. In 2014, Uno-Inn in Bengaluru was shut down by the BMC because it discriminated against Indians and served only the Japanese. Kasol in Himachal Pradesh also has a cafeteria which caters only to Israelis.
