Nature never fails to surprise us. When it comes to predicting the world’s largest and most powerful bird, it turns out to be an absolute astonishment. Harpy Eagles are known to be the world’s largest and most powerful birds of prey. They are mean fliers and also the largest eagles of America.

They are usually found around the canopies of Central and South American rain forests. They attack with fatal precision. Harpy Eagle’s common prey are sloths and monkeys, which fail to escape once the eagle’s eyes catch them. The unfortunate victims are subdued with large, viscous talons that a grizzly bear would be proud of.

Named by early South American explorers after the half-woman, half-eagle monster of Greek mythology, Harpy Eagles are not easily seen in the wild. To show the world how giant these birds are, a Redditor posted a picture posing with the giant bird leaving the internet perplexed!

While these eagles are on their hunt, they can touch speeds of 50 miles per hour. These birds are so huge that their talons are as huge as that of grizzly bears! The Eagles are now termed “near-threatened” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and considered “critically endangered” in Belize.
