Author Rashmi Bansal’s Post About Hiring A Full Time ‘Intern’ Will Make Your Blood Boil

In the world of doctors and engineers, creative people are the most underestimated people and I am speaking from experience. It takes people time to realize that our jobs are also difficult and when we finally start living our dream jobs, we get exploited by our own people. No matter how much benefit they get from our work, they will never pay us what we actually deserve. From being underpaid to not being at all, we, the creative people have to go through everything.

But, it comes as a shock when an author, who once would have faced the same problems, completely ignores the efforts of budding talent. Yes, we need exposure, but we need MONEY too.

Looks like, author Rashmi Bansal believes that people who agree to work as interns do not need money and she can exploit them by making them work with her “full-time” and pay them nothing in the name of exposure.

Rashmi Bansal’s post about hiring a full-time intern is making headlines but for all the wrong reasons. The author is facing backlash because of her offensive tone in the post.

Here’s what she wrote in her post:

I am looking for a hungry and foolish young person who would like to work as my apprentice.

This will involve research, fact-checking, handling my audio and video files, their transcription, accompanying me for interviews. It is a full-time job based in Mumbai and will also entail travelling both within the city and outside. Overall profile:

You can be a graduate of any discipline, I don’t really care. But you cannot be employed or studying elsewhere. Or preparing for MBA or any such side activity. This work requires your full attention and focus.

You should be an avid reader.

You should have impeccable English language skills, knowledge of multiple Indian languages would be a plus point.

Don’t have to be a published writer but I need to see some proof of writing ability – a blog, journal, whatever.

Should be comfortable with technology though need not be an engineer.

Ability to learn quickly and take feedback.

Commit to working with me for a minimum of 1 year.

What you get in return is a chance to learn everything I know – what they don’t tell you about writing, publishing at any media school or bschool.

You will get credit in my next book. And you will get a small stipend

(but apply only if you would have worked, even for free! because I want to see that kind of passion and devotion)

Please apply only if you are dead serious and willing to start at the earliest. Send in a one page profile and one writing sample or link to mail@rashmibansal.in. In your covering note tell me why you should be selected, why this idea appeals to you. And please be as honest as possible.

I hate bullshit in any form.

Look forward to hearing from The One for whom this position is meant to be…

People couldn’t take the arrogance of the post and thrashed the author with bashing replies.

And when the author tried defending herself…

She had to hear more…

Here’s her original post:

Rashmi might think that she is correct on her part but, she is NOT! A person who is unemployed and not even a student then why will that person work with her full-time for no money? There is no way that the exposure she is offering will fill his/her stomach.

It’s saddening to see something like this coming from an author like Rashmi Bansal!
