Anil Kumble resigned after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to not renew his one-year contract and invited fresh applications for the top post. While the board had extended his contract until the end of the West Indies series, Kumble pulled out after the team left for the Caribbean and tweeted his reasons for resigning.

In his tweet, Kumble clearly stated that the captain of the Indian cricket team had problems with his decisions and it was a difference in their views that gave birth to conflicts. With this, Kumble decided to move on and resign from the post of Team India’s head coach.

Here’s what Kumble tweeted:

Now, Virat Kohli has finally responded. Talking about the reasons that Kumble gave for his resignation, Kohli said,

Anil bhai has expressed his views and he has taken a decision to step out and we all respect that decision. It’s something that has happened right after the tournament.

Blaming Kumble for revealing dressing room conversations, Virat said,

One thing for sure is that I have had 11 press conferences that have happened during the Champions Trophy. We have created a culture over the last 3-4 years that whatever happens in the change room, we have tried to maintain the sanctity of the change room throughout. That is what the whole team believes in. For us that is paramount.

When the media asked him to explain his side of the story, Kohli said,

Like I said, for me what’s most important is to maintain the sanctity of the dressing room and what happens in the change-room is something that’s very sacred and private to all of us.

The captain further added,

… And something that I would not express in details in a public scenario. As I said, his point of view is out there and we respect that decision.

Yes, we agree that the captain wanted to maintain the sanctity of the dressing room, but he should have at least talked about the things that Kumble has accused him of. There are some serious accusations on Kohli of abusing Kumble and having some verbal fights during the team meetings. Also, there is a blame on Kohli that he made last minute changes during the India vs Pakistan match because of which we lost the match.

Virat there is a need for you to speak up. You current interview is making us believe all the blame that has been put on you!
