After ‘Catfishing’, ‘Kittenfishing’ Is The Latest Online Dating Lie Used By Singletons!

As if online dating wasn’t difficult enough, now apps can make you a fake person too! Often changing your personality is the easiest way to get/feel attractive, but it comes with its own dangers, especially in the dating arena. In today’s competitive field of looking your best always, people are now lying more often than before, to get someone they like. All this is done in the name of just casual dating. This behavior is called ‘catfishing’, which has now upgraded to ‘kittenfising’.

‘Kittenfishing’ is the newest (and dangerous) way to easily get deceived in the dating world. Coined by world-famous dating app Hinge, it’s a (lighter) version of ‘catfishing’.

‘Kittenfishing’ could be as simple as just using a (highly) photo-shopped image of yourself or exaggerating your interests, but it comes with its own pros and cons.

Let’s first look at the top features of the new dating term:

1. It’s similar to ‘catfishing’

More subtle about how you present yourself online in a (more) unrealistic approach.

2. You’re still faking it

You’re twisting the truth a little bit, but not revealing the real version of yourself.

3. A little ‘white lie’ doesn’t harm much!

These little lies about an out-dated photo or riskier past only make it dodgier!

4. You’re part of a real trend!

‘Kittenfishing’ is so common now, that Hinge was forced to install a video version of the app to minimize its effects!

5. It’s not limited to online dating only

If you think about it, ‘kittenfishing’ (literally) happens all the time. People in real life do lie to impress their boss, get favors, or even to be simply liked.

Now, here are 5 red flags of ‘Kittenfishing’ which should make you cautious:

1. One person, but so many avatars!

One person can only change their look so many times! Maybe different lengths of hair, colors, or even texture – but all the time (red flag!)

2. Same prop in all pictures!

Your prospect might want to hide certain features like baldness or skin issues, but wearing the same prop in all pictures – isn’t that alarming?!

3. Profile only features certain shots

This is a clear sign that they are either trying to conceal an insecurity or have a serious physical defect.

4. Most photos feature strange angles!

Pictures taken from certain “angles” can be deceptive – look closely! Especially those “down” angles can weigh off certain pounds on closer look!

5. Some might spell their names incorrectly!

If you come across a “professional”, do have a re-check at their profile or even sneak into their Facebook for confirmation. Chances are if they have done ‘Masters’, then they can’t possibly spell their own spelling wrong!

Can you avoid being ‘kittenfished’? The answer is yes! Here are two ways to avoid it:

1. Have a phone talk at least once!

Having a phone call won’t hurt before wasting your time. If a person claims to be funny, they better laugh even at your PJs! This is the best way to know if something’s fishy.

2. Try Skype or Whatsapp calling before date

You would like to confirm the person you’re seeing online is the same you’re meeting, right? It should be as good as the profile says! Under suspicion, try video calls!

It doesn’t end here. With online dating trends like breadcrumbing and breezing making things more complex than ever, ‘kittenfishing’ adds more woes for the singletons. 38 percent of men have reported to being ‘kittenfished’, as 24 percent of women claim the same.

How To Party Like Kanwariyas, And Unleash Your Wild Side

There can be times when you don’t feel like doing anything in your day. Apparently, you are bored! That’s okay, it’s a part of life. From the office to college, people can get bored at any point of time. But what’s the first thing that comes to the mind when you’re bored? Party, right! You want to throw some cool party dresses and go out to have a chill out time with your friends. But do you know who knows the best way to party? Well, let me tell you a secret. It is the ‘kanwariyas’ who knows how to party like a pro!

Incidentally, we witnessed that time of the year yet again with the not-so-common scenarios on the roads of the cities. Thinking what? Well, the accumulation of the saffron-clad Shiva devotees popularly known as ‘Kanwars‘ walking barefoot on the roads carrying vessels with holy water of Ganga on their shoulders.

As we all know, the Kanwar Yatra is routed towards to banks of the holy Ganga. One of the most intriguing things is that, the Kanwars chants songs of Lord Shiva including ‘bam bam Bholey’ and ‘har har Mahadev’. Seemingly, ‘kanwariyas’ usually travel in groups, constituting mostly men hailing from all parts of the country including Delhi, Haryana, UP, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

While this is a religious journey but many ends up forgetting the same. They engage in vandalism and hooliganism that fails the entire purpose of the yatra. Revisiting the recent incidents involving ‘kanwariyas’, here’s our sarcastic take on how to party like one.

1. What’s your party anthem?

While we enjoy the Hip-Hop music and tunes of popular Bollywood rappers including DJ Wale Babu in our parties which goes on till 4 A.M. in the morning, ‘kanwariyas’ have their own stance on the music department. Traditionally, one can use some religious ‘kanwariya’ music to keep up the enthusiasm during the long and tiring journey, but this year we saw something different happening around the cities, especially in UP. This time the overenthusiastic yatris considered the roads to be their private party place while blasting music in full volume.

2. Dress to impress

How do you often dress at a party? Of course, you dress to impress in your best sartorial style right! Well, it is the ‘kanwariyas’ who impressed us with their ‘outfit choices’ this time. Usually they are seen in saffron-colored outfit owing to the fact that this hue is a symbol  spirituality in the Hindu religion. However, the Kanwar youth didn’t fail to flaunt their almost naked bodies during the trek. So, when you party don’t give a damn what you are wearing or not wearing, as taught by the ‘kanwariyas’.

3. Do it like a boss!

One may go to the fanciest pub or bar to party like nobody has ever partied before. A group of people can also have their own time having a house party to enjoy time with their friends and family. But it is the ‘kanwariyas’ who do it like a boss. Indeed, who can beat their score of partying like they did on the roads of Delhi? They created the perfect party ambiance by blocking the roads and creating a ruckus.

Eventually, a video also went viral on social media featuring as many as 20 ‘kanwariyas’ who were severely damaging a car’s windows and the windshield in the middle of the road, such that even the police couldn’t touch them. Like they were saying, the rest of the people can go to hell, we are here to enjoy!

They may have gone on a rampage in the area, but we cannot blame them. Right? Blame it on the disturbing traffic and the small roads that weren’t allowing them to move freely in this democratic country.

4. Party Props

Sparkly hats, quirky eye wears, balloons and banners, our parties are filled with colorful party props that bring any boring party to life. However, it’s the ‘kanwariyas’ whose props deserve the award. This time, we observed them carrying tridents, baseball bats, and even hockey sticks during their procession. Certainly handy ‘party props’ in case of an argument or fight with anyone.

If you are thinking why do they do that, I have one line for you, ‘honesty may be the best policy, but insanity is the best defense. Believe me, my friend! The use of ‘party props’ by them can be considered as their devotion towards Lord Shiva, don’t you think? While the hooliganism of these ‘kanwariyas’ is on the rise, their vandalism is becoming a concern for authorities with each passing year.

5. Daru is the new poison!

While you may or may not be allowed to drink in a club or a bar because of well, age issues, ‘kanwariyas’ were spotted drinking liquor during the procession. Your parents may not allow you to drink, but trust me, there is no stopping you when you are a ‘kanwariya’. Funnily enough, this yatra actually restricts the consumption of alcohol! But, ‘kanwariyas’ got to party. Right?

According to media reports, another video of them drinking during the march went viral on the social media and created an uproar among the netizens. Now tell me, are you more popular than the ‘kanwariyas’? I guess not!

We now know they do things like a boss and we cannot stop them, why, because – religious diversity in the country.

6. Hooliganism at its best!

Have you ever partied like crazy that made the neighbors call the society secretary on you? I am guessing, no! While you party in a way that doesn’t trouble the other people around you, ‘kanwariyas’ can surpass all society secretaries and even the police to have the time of their lifetime. Here’s another update from their awesome party scenes. You can never beat their level of joy!

A group of ‘kanwariyas’ attacked a black SUV of the Uttar Pradesh police in Bulandshahr and even misbehaved with the police. However, in a surprising turn of events, UP police showered rose petals to ‘welcome’ the Kanwar yatra in the state. Only the Kanwars can be awarded special police treatment after such an unrestrained vandalism.

It seems like they follow a special policy of success in life which states that ‘if you don’t succeed at once, blame it on someone else and seek counseling.

That’s a new trend!

Well, they come out in groups and do what they desire in the name of god. ‘Kanwariyas’ have a way to live the moment to the fullest and we all need to ‘learn’ how to do that. From the ear-splitting DJ music to being fuelled with chillums, some of these pseudo-religious people are making their way into religious India and they are here to stay. Evidently, the is year Kanwar Yatra ended up with a bang!

I must tell you to have a good time now. Not because you liked this hooliganism, but because it is finally over.

9 Greatest Shocks That India Has Given To Pakistan

$
0
0

In spite of gaining independence from British rule at the same time, India has grown tremendously and beaten Pakistan in more than one front. Yet Pakistan doesn’t seem to understand that it is powerless before India’s might. Waging war against India is just going to be a suicide for Pakistan especially because India is presently armed to the teeth and is quickly entering defense deals with different countries. Still, for some bizarre ego issues, Pakistan is continuously trying (rather vainly) to take on India. It is time to do some reality check again — for Pakistan, of course! Of the many India’s shocks to Pakistan since August 15, 1947, here are 9 of the most prominent ones.

1. Comments on reconsidering ‘no first use’ of nuclear weapon

India has been maintaining its stand of not using nuclear weapons first for a long time, and it is still technically the official stand of the Government of India. But the remarks that our former defense minister Manohar Parrikar made about reconsidering the ‘no first use’ sent the Pakistani media and government into frenzy, who have been threatening India with nuclear weapons since the day it had acquired them.

Parrikar’s comment was soon followed up by MIT professor Vipin Narang who stated that there are enough indications that India might not wait for Pakistan to use nuclear weapons first and expose Indian cities to the threat, but rather go on a full-scale nuclear attack in any war-like event and try to wipe out all the possibilities of a nuclear attack from Pakistan’s side. If you may have noted, Pakistan has since minimized its childish threats of nuclear weapons to India. So perhaps this was one of the greatest India’s shocks to Pakistan.

2. International reputation

Over the years, India has been able to create for itself an international reputation as a progressive nation. The world has developed an admiration for its culture and traditions. Though there is much to be done for tourism in India, the industry is still 30 times larger than that of Pakistan. All of this despite the fact that Pakistan is continuously trying to break the peace and hamper the safety of India. Not only that, yoga, Ayurveda, Bollywood and other Indian elements such as the concept of karma have been able to garner much interest about India internationally.

Pakistan? Well, it is now synonymous with terrorism. According to a latest report on tourism competitive index, Pakistan stands at 124th position out of 136 countries while India stands at number 40 having taken a giant leap from 65 in the last three years.

3. Leaving Pakistan light-years behind in space research

While Pakistan had become the third Asian country to launch a rocket after Israel and Japan in 1962 with the help of NASA, a year before India could do the same and enter into the space race, it is India which stands decades ahead of Pakistan today.

India’s ISRO has been able to reach the Moon and Mars, and recently has set a world record by launching 104 satellites in one go. On the other hand, Pakistan’s SUPARCO is still unable to develop indigenous satellite launching technology and it won’t be able to do so before 2040. India, meanwhile, is making plans to reach Venus. And by the year 2030, India would be extracting Helium-3 from the Moon to meet its energy needs.

3. An exemplary Hindu-Muslim unity much to the distress of Pakistan

One of the biggest shocks that India has been able to deliver to Pakistan is the unity among the Hindus and Muslims. Jinnah’s two-nation theory was based entirely on the assumption that a country which accommodates Hindus and Muslims together, and where Muslims are in minority, would be a chaos for the Muslims. Pakistan was thus created mainly to accommodate Muslims was to be heaven for the followers of Islam.

But after 70 years of partition, a Muslim girl from India went to the ‘heaven for Muslims’ only to get abducted and tortured before somehow, fortunately, being rescued back to India. Uzma, who returned to India on May 25 in 2017, after spending about 30 days in Pakistan touched the soil of India as soon as she entered the country.

Pakistan, despite being an Islamic republic, could not keep its shit together and India, despite its enormous diversity, is still far better for the Muslims.

4. Economic progress

Post partition, Pakistan was seen as model economy in the eyes of the world. It was in fact doing such wonders that South Korea actually copied the second Five Year Plan of Pakistan to develop its economy. India, meanwhile, due to its large population and poverty, remained chaotic. But then the military dictatorship and the primary agenda of Islamisation overtook development in Pakistan. India progressed slowly, and then in leaps and bound. Today, the state of Maharashtra alone has higher nominal GDP with $390 billion (estimated) than the nominal GDP of entire Pakistan which stands at $284 billion (estimated).

5. A stable and working democracy

India and Pakistan both started as democratic nations, but after 70 years, while Indians have taken democracy for granted, there is always a shadow of uncertainty lingering over the democratic structure of Pakistan. Time and again, the military has taken over the country thereby creating a mockery of democracy. India, in spite of its diversity and huge population, has been amazingly able to keep intact the democratic system except for a small hiccup when Indira Gandhi imposed emergency, which is unlikely to be repeated.

Also, while Pakistan doesn’t even recognize the minorities and violent mobs kill them over blasphemy, in India, a country with 80% Hindus, we had a Sikh Prime Minister for 10 years and a Muslim president adored by everyone. Pakistan can only be amazed at these facts.

6. Surgical strike that Pakistan is ashamed to admit

After the news of Indian Army carrying out a cross-border surgical strike on NSCN(K) camps in Myanmar reached Pakistan, their first reaction was that they warned India to not dare to do anything similar in Pakistan because ‘Pakistan is not Myanmar’. They gave similar warnings after US carried out operations inside Pakistani territory and voices were raised in India asking New Delhi to do the same. That time, Pakistan warned that India is not the US.

Pakistan carried the misconception that Indian Army wasn’t brave enough to do anything against Pakistan. And guess what? About 10 days after the surgical strike inside Myanmar, India made its way into Pakistan, stayed there for four hours, killed 38 terrorists and destroyed 7 terror launch pads.

7. From menace to being polio-free

India and Pakistan suffered much from polio in their respective pasts. In fact, in the 1980s, India witnessed a staggering 2,00,000 new cases of people getting infected with poliomyelitis each year, with about 1,000 children contracting infantile paralysis. Since then, India has come a long way and has been able to make the impossible possible and now is declared a polio-free country. In Pakistan, however, the disease has remained endemic despite being a fraction of India’s population and presently amounts to 80% of the total cases annually.

8. Befriending Pakistan’s allies

One of the greatest achievements of India’s foreign policy, especially in the recent years, has been befriending allies of Pakistan which has been giving the country sleepless nights. There was a great fuss among Pakistanis when one of their main allies, UAE, lit the tallest skyscraper in the world Burj Khalifa with the colors of Indian national flag on the occasion of India’s 67th Republic Day. India has been able to establish ties with Pakistan’s closest allies like Iran, Saudi Arabia and the US, and sign major economic and strategic deals with each of them.

9. The embarrassing defeat in the 1971 war

How can we not talk about this? The 1971 war between India and Pakistan was a result of pre-emptive airstrikes on 11 Indian air stations by Pakistan. The war was actually between Bangladesh (then East-Pakistan) and Pakistan. It was a liberation war for Bangladesh from the oppressive West-Pakistani regime, and India stayed away from getting involved in the war directly. But once Pakistan attacked, it proved to be suicidal for the country as India declared a full-fledged war against Pakistan. India entered the war on December 3, 1971 and forced present-day Pakistan to sign the instrument of surrender on December 16, 1971. That marked the creation of Bangladesh. The war got over in just 13 days after India intervened and the memory of it still makes Pakistan uncomfortable.

From Royal Carriages To Wine Cellars, Everything That Was Distributed Between India And Pakistan During Partition

72 years ago, the partition of India came into effect dividing British India into two new, independent countries – India and Pakistan. The northern region was a predominantly Muslim section of India that later became the nation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947, while the Hindu majority of southern region was named the Republic of India. At the stroke of midnight on August 14, 1947, the first Prime Minister of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru gave the famous speech hailing country’s decade-long movement against the British Raj. Celebrations began the midnight with fireworks in the major cities in both the newly formed countries.

However, one of the mammoth tasks that the leaders from both sides were to deal with was the division of physical assets between both India and Pakistan. While the geographical part of the partition that required the redrawing of boundaries was with Lord Mountbatten and his team, the biggest challenge for officers from both sides the division of national assets proportionately between the two countries. Different categories of assets had to be examined separately and divided on an equitable basis.

Interestingly, on August 14, 1947, India’s cash balance was about Rs. 4000 million, out of which Pakistan wanted Rs. 1000 million. Incidentally, India was not in favor of paying such a huge amount to the newly formed neighbor. Evidently, the panel decided to pay Rs. 750 million to Pakistan.

Apparently, it was not only the human beings who were divided between India and Pakistan, it was the banknotes, furniture, books and even the employees too. The human columns of public employees from junior ministers to sweepers, to railroad presidents, errand boys, clerks, and bearers had to be transported off from one dominion to another. Sadly, the communal riots compelled these people to abandon their immobile properties in their ancestral countries and migrate between the newly independent India and Pakistan.

1. Monetary and liquid assets

After a long struggle of decision-making, Pakistan got 17.5 percent of all the monetary and liquid assets, while India got a share of 82.5 percent including currency stocks, coins, postal and revenue stamps, gold reserves and the assets of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). All these financial distributions were accounted with proper details that even the record of the proportional distribution of petty cash worth Rs. 75 from a district commissioner in Nagaland has been mentioned in the records.

2. Movable and non-liquid assets

These assets included the units like all the items from the government premises. From down to tables, chairs, light bulbs, pots, brooms, stationary, and even blotting paper were divided. It was decided that all the movable and non-liquid assets will be divided in the ratio of 80:20 between India and Pakistan with India receiving 80 percent and Pakistan getting the remaining 20 percent. Even the books in the government libraries were divided between India and Pakistan.

3. Government vehicles

From rail tracks to the roadway mileage, government vehicles and railway rolling stocks were also divided in proportion between the two countries.

4. Assets of the police force

In Lahore, the Police Superintendent divided everything equally between the Hindu deputy and Muslim deputy. From legging to rifles, turbans and lathis, everything was divided. Interestingly, even the instruments of police band were split between the two comrades. Instruments like flute and trumpet went to Pakistan, while India got drums and cymbals. However, one instrument was left in the end and that was a trombone. Surprisingly, the deputies who had been colleagues for years had to fist fight to gain the instrument for their country.

5. Government library books

Dictionaries were torn apart such that A-K belonged to India and the rest went to Pakistan. Sets of Encyclopedia Britannica kept in the Punjab Government library were divided using religious terms. However, when there was only one copy of any book available in the library, librarians allotted the books based on the greater interest of the nations.

6. Wine cellars

India decided to keep the wine cellars with them since Pakistan would be an Islamic nation where alcohol was ‘haraam’. Nevertheless, Pakistan was monetarily compensated for the value of the wine.

7. Currency

Since there was one government press in India that was used to print the currency notes, India refused to hand that over to Pakistan. Therefore, the Islamic nation had to begin its existence with Indian currency notes with a rubber stamp of “Pakistan” over “India” on the notes, till the time they had their own printing press.

8. Royal carriages

The Viceroy of India has two sets of Royal carriages, out of which one was trimmed in gold and the other in silver. Now, who would get which set, was the decision of the Mountbatten family. They chose to ‘toss a coin’ for the decision. And after the coin toss, India received the gold trimmed set of carriages. From the harnesses to the uniforms of the helpers, everything was divided between India and Pakistan.

9. Indian Army divided

After the end of British rule in India, the existing British Indian Army and its administration also ceased to exist. Around 260, 000 men mainly Hindus and Sikhs moved to India and 140, 000 men, mainly Muslims went to Pakistan. The Brigade of Gurkhas, recruited in Nepal was divided between India and Britain. Individual troops were split up. The 19th Lancers in Pakistan exchanged their Jat and Sikh troops for Muslims from the Skinner’s Horse in India.

To everyone’s amazement, the extremists jumped to the bandwagon and had their own demands including the division of Taj Mahal by dismantling it and shipping it to Pakistan since it was built by an Islamic ruler.

Such was the level of insanity during the partition of India and Pakistan that the entire process was aptly termed as the “the most complex divorce in the history”. What looked simple on paper as per the June 3 plan had become a nightmare during the execution.

Polish Tourist Does Kiki Challenge Inside PIA Aircraft. What Happened Next Is Really Surprising!

In the viral Kiki challenge which has kept everyone on their toes (literally), a lot of participants belong to different countries. The performer usually jumps out of a moving vehicle and dances to Canadian rapper Drake’s popular song ‘In My Feelings’ in the background. However, this time the PIA Kiki challenge has gone viral, thanks to a Polish tourist. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is the national flag carrier of Pakistan as we all know.

Taking the Kiki Challenge a step further, a Polish tourist performed it onboard a Pakistani flight which has now caused a major problem – both for the tourist and the airline in concern.

Eva ze Beck’s PIA Kiki challenge went so viral, that it has landed the Pakistan International Airlines in trouble with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)! But what did Eva do?

The Polish tourist did the popular Kiki challenge from inside the aircraft. She sported a dark green dress, similar to the national flag of Pakistan.

As seen in PIA Kiki challenge, Eva danced her heart out while twirling her dupatta which had an uncanny resemblance to Pakistan’s national flag.

The tourist shared the video of her PIA Kiki challenge on her personal blog. PIA too had tweeted Beck’s photo stating ‘she’s celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day’.

However, PIA didn’t expect this ‘goodwill gesture’ will invite Pakistan’s highest anti-graft body NAB probe – for allegedly bringing disgrace to the flag and abuse of power!

The Polish tourist didn’t expect such a reaction from Pakistan as well. She was only celebrating their Independence Day!

Eva then posted an apology for hurting any sentiments in this Facebook video:

She also added that she loves Pakistan and will continue to promote it throughout the world.

Earlier today, I received some important news. It got me thinking about my original travel plan, which I had made at the beginning of the year, after leaving my life in London behind. . When I left Europe to travel across Asia in March, my plan was to keep going for as long as possible. I wanted to see the rest of the world. Pakistan was only the second stop on the itinerary. . According to the original plan, right about this time, now, I was meant to still be riding horses in Mongolia. Right about this time, I was meant to be planning for the next country to be conquered on my vast world journey. . And while I always knew that the journey would be full of surprises, I never expected my second stop to become an adopted home. But I guess Pakistan must be pretty special if I decided to stay here until the end of the year, right? 😜 . So THAT’s the great news: I found out earlier today that my visa has been extended for five more months. I’m not going anywhere. That’s five more months of exploring this beautiful, misunderstood country; five more months of the world’s best food; five more months of love and adventure. . And, who knows, this could be only the beginning. 🤐😉

A post shared by Eva zu Beck (@evazubeck) on

Meanwhile, Eva posted this photo from Karachi beach, celebration Pakistan’s Independence Day which is on August 15, 2018.

PIA has been caught in a legal soup and is yet to comment over the matter. PIA was even asked by NAB to inquire about the concerned officers and take action against them.

Indian National Flag

Indian National Flag

Indian National Flag

Indian National Flag

Indian National Flag

Indian National Flag

15 Heinous Practices Around The World That Show India Is A Far Better Place To Live Than Any Other Country

$

If you think things in India are weird, there are innumerable heinous practices around the world that are far more cringe-worthy. Some of them are so ridiculous that you’ll be grateful that you belong to India and not to the land where such heinous practices around the world take place. Though every country has their good and bad but after knowing about these heinous practices around the world you will be happy to be an Indian citizen.

Here we take a look at 15 such heinous practices around the world. By the end of it, you will feel grateful about being an Indian.

1. Spitting on the bride

If you have seen the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you must be aware of this practice in Greece. Red-stained walls in India because of pan masala spitting populations may suddenly seem to be much less heinous in comparison to spitting on a newly wed bride. Even though it is supposedly done to ward off evil, this is definitely one of the heinous practices from around the world which make us love India for what it is.

2. A day off to have sex

The population crunch, declining birth rates and the gaping difference in the male-female ratio has compelled the Russian government to declare one day off for couples to engage in sex. Yes, you read that right. Couples actually get the 12th of September every year as a holiday, so that they can go have sex, get pregnant and raise the population of the country.

3. Hanging out with the dead

All over the country in Denmark, cemeteries have been converted into well-maintained parks. Not just that, people hang out here and have a cheerful time while there are dead people all around them. Thanks to endless horror movies we have seen in our lifetimes, none of us would choose a graveyard as a meeting place or a place to sit and relax, for sure. Isn’t this one of those bizarre practices around the world which make you feel glad that you belong to India and not to Denmark?

4. Slurping is a compliment to the food

Table manners and table etiquette are taken very seriously in western countries. Even in India, eating food noisily is considered to be offensive (in the modernized parts of the country at least). Well, not in Japan! Here, they slurp away at their noodles instead of entangling them within their forks. The louder the slurp, the more it indicates your liking to the food.

5. Hunting for women at night

If you think women in India are unsafe or being subjected to cruelty, this bizarre tradition in Bhutan will blow your mind. Under the Bomena tradition, men enter the rooms of eligible spinsters and spend an entire night within its walls, without much ado to consent or any bother about invasion of privacy. The worst part is, if they get caught, they have to marry the woman or end up being a worker in the girl’s father’s farms.

6. Filing your tooth not nails

Preparing for a wedding is a big thing in our country, no doubt. But Balinese men and women give us quite a tough competition when it comes to being ready to wed. While most of us file our nails, these people take it a notch higher by filing their teeth. The grueling and painful tradition is to mark one’s entry into adulthood and a symbol of one’s control over sinful emotions like lust, greed, jealousy, and anger.

7. Consume the dead

Residents of the Amazon rainforest, the Yanomami tribe, don’t like the idea of burying their dead. They believe in destroying all physical traces of the dead. They believe that only by doing so, the departed’s soul will be able to attain peace. Hence, they consume their remnants. Yes, after the cremation, whatever remaining ash and bone is left behind, is mixed in a plantain soup and consumed by the tribe. They believe that doing this will keep the soul of the loved and lost alive within them.

8. Penis Parade

Otherwise known as Kanamara Matsuri, this is an annual parade in Japan where devotees walk through the streets of Kawasaki, carrying a large penis shaped sculpture. They do so to protect themselves against a demoness who was believed to have vaginal teeth. Does that make you feel better about the religious parades in our country?

9. No nature calls after marriage

If you think not having a toilet is a problem in our country, think about having a toilet but not being able to use it. This is exactly what happens to a newly wed couple in Indonesia. The Tidong community prohibits their newly weds from using the bathroom for three days after their marriage. The relatives supervise and make sure they don’t break the rule as otherwise their married life will be cursed with stillbirth and death. Imagine not bathing or answering nature’s call for three days. Doesn’t India feel like heaven suddenly?

10. Test of manhood

In India, men not crying or being physically strong may be considered the sign of manhood. But, that is not so in Satwe-Mawe tribe in Amazon. When men come of age here, they have to wear mitts filled with bullet ants and dance around for ten minutes to prove their manhood. It is said that the sting of one bullet ant is equal to the pain one feels when an actual bullet hits the body. The worst part is, the men have to do this 20 times during their lifetimes to prove that they are ‘man enough’. This is definitely one of the most heinous practices around the world.

11. Feed the monkeys

Feeding the animals is just a thing in India. In Thailand, there is an entire festival dedicated to feeding the monkeys. Where in India we hide away the food when a monkey comes running towards us, these people seem to think otherwise. Called the Monkey Buffet Festival and celebrated in the town of Lop Buri, the locals pile up their tables with fresh fruits, cakes and candy all for the native Macaque monkeys to feed on as part of this tradition.

12. Jumping over babies

Dating all the way back to 1620, the Spanish El Colacho is a heinous tradition for sure. In this, men dress up as devils and together, run and jump over babies lying on a mattress in the middle of the road. And in India, we banned throwing babies off the roofs and balconies. Thank God we don’t have the Spanish El Colacho as a tradition!

13. Mutilation of genitals

In North-east Africa, the external female genitalia, meaning the clitoris is removed, using the razor of a blade. The horror of it is that, the act is most often done without the use of anesthesia. Women in India seems to be much safer in comparison to such a gruesome tradition.

14. Finger amputation

The Dani tribe in Japan and the Yakuza community in Japan practice the ritual where certain portions of one’s fingers are chopped off. The Dani tribe follows this tradition as a way of mourning after someone from the family passes away. Whereas the Yakuza do it as a penance for one’s sins.

15. Blood fiestas

Spain, Portugal, Mexico, and Brazil celebrate an entire festival around inflicting brutal and bloody pain on various animals from bull to goats. The acts of torture on these animals include dropping a goat off a bell tower and chasing a bull covered in burning wax through the streets.

After reading these we should definitely feel lucky and say ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’.

10 Times Kerala Showed The Meaning Of True Independence For Transgender Community, And Set An Example For Other States

God’s Own Country, Kerala has always been a trendsetter among all the Indian states, since its achievements in the socio-political front have created a buzz among the people every now and then. The Indian state of Kerala has a unique quality that the other states in the nation are still struggling to achieve – multiculturalism. With the most varied composition of castes and religions in the state, Kerala seemed to have achieved a lot more than the whole world put together. And considerably, the most intriguing aspect of their policies is to elevate the status of the transgender community in the state.

Unfortunately, gender and sex are still a huge taboo in the country. Even after 72 years of independence, people cannot easily comprehend with the idea of the third gender. And not just in India, but it is all over the world where transgenders are still struggling to peacefully maintain their identity among the ‘other’ people. But in a surprising turn of events, Kerala government has made some path-breaking policies in the state that have made the lives of the transgender community a lot easier.

With the first of its kind Transgender Policy of the State, the state began a revolution to end the social stigma towards the sexual minority group. The policy covers all the categories of the transgender including the female to male, male to female and the intersex-people. According to media reports, the society held its second beauty pageant for trans-women recently.

3. Free sex change operation

Kerala became the newest state to offer free sex change operations to its transgender community. While the Supreme Court is still debating over the criminalization of Section 377, Kerala followed a progressive policy and changed the history by offering free sexual reassignment surgeries to the transgender community in the government hospitals. Kerala decision is an empowering one that rest of the states should definitely follow.

4. First ever transgender sports meet

Its continuous efforts in giving recognition to the third gender are working in the betterment of the society. The state held first of its sort sports meet for transgenders in the country and it was a mega event. With more than 100 athletes from 14 districts, belonging to the third sex participating in the event, the crowd was appreciating the efforts of the participants in all form.

5. Justice Board for transgenders

Kerala set up a transgender justice board to deal with the problems and complaints of the third sex community. A separate column called ‘intersex’ was also introduced in the birth and death registration forms in the state. The justice board aims to ensure equality and justice for the members of the community and providing free legal aid to the put a check on discrimination and violence against the community.

6. First magazine cover to feature trans-woman

The state’s popular magazine Vanitha set records, by featuring a transgender woman on the cover of its June 2016 issue. The issue featured the model Deepthi on the front cover. Deepthi was born as Shinoj, a boy and the magazine covered a detailed interview of her transformation and the sufferings she had to face as a queer. With the cover feature of someone from the third sex, Vanitha magazine became a trend-setter in acknowledging the identity of the third gender in public life.

7. Employment of transgender in Kochi Metro

Another first of its kind, the metro in Kochi, Kerala employed 23 transgenders in order to push forward the welfare policies for the neglected community.
